Old house patio

Old house patio

Old houses in the Philippines would never be caught without a patio, or a small veranda. Maybe because Filipinos love spending time outside with family and friends. These old houses along Intramuros depict an era where standing by your veranda would be a delight as you see familiar faces walking down the street...bidding and smiling towards you!

Looking at the photo reminds me of the tragic story of Intramuros and Manila as a whole; how San Agustin was just one of over ten grand churches within meters of each other! These included San Ignacio, Manila Cathedral, San Francisco, Sto. Domingo, Orden Tercera, Lourdes, Recoletos and San Francisco, among others. The Casa Manila complex is part of the last remaining preserved area of Intramuros since together with San Agustin, it wasn't hit by the American carpet bombing of Manila.
